In the context of the Greco-Turkish War, near the Greek village of Domokos on 17 May 1897 the Greek army of Prince Constantine clashed with the Turkish army led by General Edhem Pasha, who eventually won the battle. Among the Greek ranks also fought a brigade of Italian volunteers, the “Garibaldini,” led by Ricciotti Garibaldi, son of Giuseppe and Anita.
