Elegant salon table, late 18th century (the top)

consisting of a rectangular top made from an oil-painted panel depicting grotesque motifs such as figures inspired by mythology, satyrs playing with young goats, and fluttering birds; at the center, a reserve contains a putto in flight among rose branches, ideally supported by four winged female caryatids resting on a base adorned with dragons; four additional reserves, each depicting a landscape and placed near the edge, complete the elaborate decoration. A frame of interlaced foliate swags on a red ground encloses the entire decorative scheme. The top is set into a later white-lacquered wooden structure with gilt profiles, finely carved on the frieze beneath the top and on the obelisk legs with small foliate ornaments in pale blue, 48x151x127 cm
